Body armour

Freelance journalists and NGO workers often operate in some of the most dangerous and volatile parts of the world. Body armour can form an important part of security risk management; however, the level and type of protection required should be based on an assessment of sometimes competing considerations, including weight/bulk and mobility; cost and availability; the ballistic, blast and stab threats and whether they result from collateral exposure or direct targeting; and your mission and activities.

Our comprehensive and flexible body armour package includes soft armour panels, hard armour plates and four different vests/carriers so that clients can rapidly adapt the level and type of ballistic protection provided depending on the activities and threat environment. The package includes:

  • Overt tactical vest (navy, black, sand or blue)
  • Covert tactical cover (navy, black or sand)
  • Ultra-covert cover (white or black)
  • Plate carrier (navy, black, sand or blue)
  • NIJ Level IIIA soft armour panels (front/back/side)
  • NIJ Level IV ICW hard armour plates (front/back)
  • NIJ Level IIIA PASGT advanced combat helmet (black with navy and sand covers)
  • Armour carry bag (black)
  • Optional: Front and rear PRESS velcro badges
  • Optional: PRESS stencilled onto front of ballistic helmet

In conjunction with the soft armour, which protects against high-velocity handguns, the hard armour panels provide protection against armour piercing rifles as well as the ubiquitous AK-47 and other Kalashnikov-pattern weapons, and are essential for high-threat environments.

The following optional upgrades are available for the overt tactical vest:

  • NIJ Level IV SA hard armour side plates kit
  • NIJ Level IIIA shoulder, groin, collar, throat, bicep and coccyx soft armour panels
  • Personal Trauma Pouch (black, olive or coyote)

All our body armour components are manufactured in the United Kingdom to the highest standards by VestGuard UK, an award-winning British company. If you have not purchased body armour before, this guide provides some useful information, including the NIJ Standards for protection levels.

  • 10 year performance guarantee on hard armour
  • 10 year performance guarantee on helmets
  • 5 year performance guarantee on soft armour
  • 1 year performance guarantee on vests/covers

Please note, when the armour saves your life, it has done its job and should be replaced. Any damage to the panels inside can result in a hole in the protection, and you should always check your armour for any signs of damage on a regular basis. You should immediately replace the panel or the whole vest in the event of an attack.
