Personal Trauma Pouch

Open Briefing’s Personal Trauma Pouch (PTP) is designed to be carried at all times by aid workers, journalists and others in remote or hostile environments.

The deliberately non-military pouch is small enough to be carried in a thigh cargo pocket or on a belt. This means that essential items needed to treat catastrophic bleeding are always immediately to hand, saving vital minutes in life-threatening situations.

This uncomplicated kit contains:

  • Combat Application Tourniquet (black)
  • Cellox Haemostatic Granules (15 g sachet)
  • First Care Emergency Dressing with pressure bar (6″, green)
  • Pair of nitrile examination gloves (large, purple)
  • First aid belt pouch (16x12x5cm, green)

Clients will need to supplement these trauma kits with their own medication and basic first aid supplies, such as plasters, pain relief and bandages, or an Explorer First Aid Kit from Lifesystems, which we can supply. Clients may also require the Lifesystems Sterile Pro First Aid Kit (included in our team kit) and Lifesystems Dental First Aid Kit depending on the locations they will be working in. We supply the full range of Lifesystems first aid kits at discounted prices for NGOs.

Team First Aid Kit

For teams operating within reach of emergency medical care, we recommend the Lifesystems Mountain Leader Pro First Aid Kit as a cost-effective group first aid kit that can be easily supplemented with extra items. The following items (except the stretcher) will fit inside the Lifesystems first aid kit if some of the non-essential items are removed:

  • 1 x Fenton Pharmaceuticals 6″ emergency bandage (aka ‘Israeli bandage’)

Automated external defibrillator (AED)

We recommend that teams operating in hostile or remote environments for longer periods of time consider purchasing an automated external defibrillator (AED). Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of premature death, but with immediate treatment many lives can be saved. AEDs are easy to use, compact, portable and very effective. They are designed to be used by lay persons; the machines guide the operator through the process by verbal instructions and visual prompts. They are safe and will not allow a shock to be given unless the heart’s rhythm requires it. They are designed to be stored for long periods without use, and require very little routine maintenance.

We supply the Mediana HeartOn A10 AED, as it is cost effective and very easy to use. Features of this device include:

  • Automatic self-test
  • Visual support icons
  • Audible voice prompts
  • Real time guidance
  • Easy to use with or without training
