Open Briefing is pleased to announce that it now offers specialist medical and crisis response travel insurance.

Humanitarian aid workers, journalists, expeditions teams and others travelling to high-risk destinations and hostile or remote environments often find it difficult and expensive to obtain suitable travel insurance. However, travelling with the correct insurance is an essential part of security risk management, even for those clients commissioning emergency response, medical support and other services from Open Briefing.

In order to ensure you are properly protected, we now offer the battleface travel medical insurance plan and planb crisis response add-on package, which are underwritten by Lloyd’s of London.

Battleface travel medical insurance provides you with comprehensive worldwide medical cover, including for:

  • Hospitalisation
  • Outpatient treatment
  • Emergency medical evacuation
  • Emergency reunion
  • Local burial/cremation or repatriation of mortal remains
  • Accidental death and dismemberment

Unlike most travel insurance, this specialist plan automatically includes cover for war and terrorism and covers every country in the world – even those countries with travel advisories in effect. (Cover for travel to or from the United States will not be available until later this year.)

The planb crisis response add-on package provides you with additional cover for:

  • Kidnapping
  • Mysterious disappearance
  • Wrongful detention
  • Blackmail and extortion
  • Hijacking
  • Acts of terrorism

Battleface and planb are provided by Tangiers International, which is part of the Tangiers Group. Based in Malta, the company’s non-profit projects include the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), which provides search-and-rescue assistance to refugees and migrants in distress at sea, and Migrant Report, a project designed to measure, investigate and document the impact of human movement. Open Briefing is delighted to be working with such a company in order to offer our clients the specialist insurance cover that they need.
