The Holistic Security Protocol for Human Rights Defenders

At least 304 human rights defenders were killed around the world last year. Enough is enough.

Open Briefing has today launched the Holistic Security Protocol for Human Rights Defenders. The Defender’s Protocol will help at-risk defenders around the world advance their physical safety, digital security, and wellbeing and resilience. By following the protocol, defenders can enhance their individual and collective security, and reduce the burden of attacks, harassment, and censorship on them and their communities.

It is available now in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic and Russian at https://protocol.openbriefing.org/.

The Defender’s Protocol is based on our experiences working with defenders all over the world, including high-risk communities, such as women human rights defenders, LGBTI defenders, and those defending land, indigenous’ peoples and environmental rights. It is the fourth resource in our ‘(Em)powered by Open Briefing’ series, and complements the Holistic Security Toolkit that we launched last month.
